#Hashtag Printer: Walk, Run, Cycle

It’s not everyday you get to see PM Lee #fangirling 😀

We were really excited to be part of the launch ceremony held at Teck Ghee Community Centre – to celebrate the completion of the first phase of works to transform Ang Mo Kio into the country’s first walking and cycling town!

Graced by Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong, together with Minister for National Development Lawrence Wong and Senior Minister of State for Transport Josephine Teo.

Telltale’s #HASHTAG PRINTER

The Telltale Team arrived bright and early on Saturday to give the event a little social media oomph. Every photo taken with the event hashtag #WalkCycleAMK was harvested from Instagram, slot into a cute overlay and printed!

We saw droves of AMK residents young and old joining us – PM Lee and the ministers officially launched the start of the event with a shower of confetti! Various booths filled both the indoor event hall and the outdoor courtyard area of Teck Ghee Community Centre, as well as various stopovers along the 4km new biking route. Food booths offering local favourites like Mee Siam, and even balloon sculpturing for the kids! Great food, goodie bags and lots of fun activities.

Residents took to the tracks! Cycling on the newly completed 4km biking route which loops around AMK Avenues 1, 3 and 8.

PM Lee also announced the start of work on the first 60km of a 150km green corridor called the Round Island Route. The 150km corridor, which is more than three times the length of Singapore, links to other PCN loops at strategic locations, feeding its users into various residential towns. The development is part of the larger Park Connector Network (PCN), which is now over 300km in length.

The movement’s aim is to encourage people to incorporate walking and cycling into their lifestyle – with new infrastructure and testing out concepts to make Singapore more walkable and cyclist-friendly.
